We are now back from Cubjam, the very successful national Jamboree for Cubs. All six of our members who attended had a brilliant time and if anyone would like to read the blog we have been keeping at the event it has now been made public. Please click the Cubjam 13 link on the right hand side of our Home Page. The photographs from Cubjam are now on our Flickr site and can be found at http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFDp2c3 Cubjam 16 is being planned to coincide with 100 years of Cub Scouts and will be on a Wild West theme. Any of you who have children who will be aged 8 to 10 in 2016 should consider this fantastic opportunity for them!
This Tuesday the Cubs took part in The Big Dig run by Chertsey Museum. Carefully removing layers of sand (well, some more carefully than others) the Cubs discovered artefacts from as far back as Roman times and even unearthed a skeleton or two! I think you will agree that we have been having a lot of fun!
Fifteen of our Cubs took part in a sleepover on the Golden Hinde in London. The Golden Hinde is a replica of Francis Drake’s ship and the Cubs found out what it was like to be part of the Elizabethan crew, before settling down to sleep amongst the cannons on the gun deck! It really was a fantastic and very enjoyable experience. Please have a look at the full set of photos which can be found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/39851231@N08/sets/72157632971840726/
The Cubs put their Cub Scout Law into action last Tuesday by polishing shoes as their good turn for the day! There are a few more photos on our flickr site which can be found by clicking this link http://flic.kr/s/aHsjDUeNMa
Eight of our Cubs took park in the Ian Goddard Challenge, a four mile hike around Richmond and Twickenham. This was an extremely interesting day out as we discovered places we did not know about and points of interest along the way, answering questions and completing challenges as we went! 7th Hampton A team came 11th in the District and 7th Hampton B team came 9th. Many thanks to the organisers for a very enjoyable day out and well done to the Cubs who took part. Cub Summer camp this year took place at Polyapes camp site. The weather was good which made a nice change, although we did have a thunderstorm, a new experience for a Cub Camp, adding to the many weather conditions the Cubs have had to endure!
The theme was Space Camp and amongst other badgework we completed all the activities required for the Astronomers Badge. The days were full of activity and we also managed some star gazing at night. We had managed to pick the three nights of the month when the moon is not visible although we did have two clear nights when we could see the stars. We were able to find the Pole Star and identify some of the constellations. We also saw the International Space Station going over! Please have a look at the pictures from camp which show how much fun we had!
The Cubs enjoyed an evening of loud music, party games and a traditional street party style tea to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee! A beautiful and delicious Union Jack cake was provided by “Pat-A-Cake Parties” (Patemail@example.com) a local company which specialises in cupcakes for parties and other celebrations. Thank you to them and also many thanks to the parents who provided the food for the party tea!
